House of Fraser, Darlington, has today (Wednesday 2nd October 2016) completed a major refurbishment programme following a significant investment to the store’s interior, as well as the introduction of new premium brands across all departments and the opening of a new restaurant on the lower ground.
The prestigious department store, formally known as Binns, has increased the size of its womenswear, menswear and beauty floors, with new flooring and lighting throughout, as well as exposing windows to allow more natural light in to the store. The new floor layouts create a more effective use of space allowing for even more premium brands to be introduced to Darlington.
House of Fraser’s new beauty hall: The department store’s beauty hall has been significantly transformed with the introduction of new luxury brands, including MAC Cosmetics, Bobbi Brown and Urban Decay.
House of Fraser’s new womenswear and menswear departments: Womenswear has introduced new brands, including Mint Velvet and Barbour and menswear have launched exciting new brands including Hugo Boss and Gant.
House of Fraser Darlington’s heritage: Binns acquired the store in 1922 from Arthur Sanders which was formerly the site of a drapery store on High Row in Darlington. The adjoining premises were quickly acquired in High Row and Blackwell gate to allow the store to expand and trade as Binns. In January 1925 the store was destroyed by a fire and moved to temporary premises - rebuilding began the following year. Prior to the current refurbishment the last major works that took place were between the years of 1984 and 1986.
Peter Kirsop Store Manager at House of Fraser Darlington said: "We are extremely proud of how premium our newly refurbished store looks. We have created a department store in which Darlington can be proud. We’ve listened to our customers and introduced some amazing new brands such as MAC Cosmetics and Bobbi Brown. All brands which customers wanted to see in their local department store.”
